The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness has awarded €50,000 to the four-year international research project 'British Theatre in the Twenty-First Century: Crisis, Affect, Community'.
Dr Delgado-García will be undertaking research for this project among a team of European academics. Members include Dr Mireia Aragay (Principal Investigator, University of Barcelona), Professor Martin Middeke (University of Augsburg) and Dr Clare Wallace (Charles University, Prague), among others.
Starting in January 2017, the project will investigate contemporary British theatre's turn to affect and emotion. It will probe how contemporary dramaturgies of affect engage with a complex historical moment characterised by intersecting crises - financial, political, environmental, humanitarian among others - and a re-imagining of the notion of community.
This is the third research project in which Dr Delgado-García takes part in collaboration with this international research team, and follows from two recently completed research projects: 'Ethical Issues in Contemporary British Theatre since 1989: Globalisation, Theatricality, Spectatorship' (2013-2016), and 'Representations of Precariousness in Contemporary British Theatre' (2014). These were respectively funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivity and the German Academic Exchange Service.
