First Lego League 2016

For the first time, partners from industry and the armed services joined the judging panels at our FIRST LEGO League tournament hosted on January 8 2015 here at the University. Representatives from National Instruments, Network Rail, Mackwell, the Defence Training Undergraduate Scheme, Bournville College and IBM took part in this West Midlands regional tournament which is part of an international Engineering challenge run in the UK and Ireland by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The Regional Final of the FIRST LEGO League took place at the University of Birmingham on Thursday 15 December 2016. 14 teams of school children competed against each other to win trophies in the following categories: Robot Design, Robot Performance, Best Project and Core Values (team skills).This year’s theme was Animal Allies and the competition is designed to promote STEM subjects in schools, to encourage children to learn new skills and to introduce them to concepts of engineering.
