'Old Joe' turns blue in body positivity awareness campaign

The University of Birmingham’s iconic clock tower ‘Old Joe’ has turned blue to improve Body Positivity Week.

Birmingham’s landmark tower changed colour on Monday and will continue to be lit up blue until tomorrow to mark the awareness week organised by the University's B-Eat Society.

Naomi White, B-Eat Society Secretary, said: “This week aims to improve body positivity on campus through events aimed at getting students and staff talking about what they love about themselves.

“Blue is one of the colours of the Society and we hope that by lighting up Old Joe we will get as many people talking about body positivity as possible.”

The week, which is being promoted on social media with the hashtag #UoBePositive, coincides with Love Your Body Day on the 18th October organised by the NOW Foundation.

B-Eat was founded in 1989 with the aim to help people to beat eating disorders. The University of Birmingham is the only university to represent the charity.

Naomi added: “Our society’s goal is to encourage people to be happy in their bodies and to increase body confidence around the University and beyond.
