Professor Candida Moss

Professor Candida Moss, Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame was interviewed on CBS News on 24 May 2017.

CBS news reported on a mass wedding Pope Francis presided over in May 2017. Among the twenty couples that were married were some that had been living together before marriage. Cohabitation before marriage is discouraged by The Catholic Church, though couples still have the right to a Catholic wedding. The article also reported on the upcoming Synod of Bishops, a meeting of bishops who advise the Pope, and family-related issues that will be discussed at this meeting, among them the contentious issue of allowing divorced parishioners to receive communion. Professor Candida Moss (who is also a Cadbury Centre Honorary Fellow) was asked about her opinion on these moves towards more inclusion, and she was quoted with the words: “Lots of people feel alienated from the church, they don't feel welcome there…But it seems like Francis is saying that the church has to be more progressive, it needs to be more practical and it needs to be more compassionate."
