In June, the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research (IMSR) had its own stall at the University of Birmingham's biannual Community Festival, which invited the local community to find out more about our research.

'The IMSR passport to the world of metabolism: follow the fuel!' stall was located in the Health Tent, outside the Aston Webb building. It consisted of three exciting stations, where participants age 7 and above were very surprised and interested to learn about the fat and sugar content of their favourite snacks. They were also fascinated by the large metabolic organs in a large anatomic model and smaller ones under the microscope, and won prizes by exercising against the clock!

Our enthusiastic team of IMSR volunteers enjoyed interacting with the community, and it was a great opportunity to explain our research portfolio (going beyond fuel metabolism) to a wider audience. Engaging with the public, particularly with younger members, and sharing our passion for research is an important aspect of our work.
