CHASM's longstanding Advisory Board Chair, Sir Brian Pomeroy, awarded prestigious honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham

The Centre on Household Assets and Savings Management (CHASM) is celebrating Sir Brian Pomeroy’s honorary doctorate award from the University of Birmingham. Sir Brian has played a pivotal role in cultivating the success of CHASM since the Centre’s creation in 2010.

He brought a wealth of experience from his many public, private and voluntary sector appointments including Chairman of Responsible Gambling Strategy Board, Ambassador of the Money Advice Service and Chairman of the Treasury’s Financial Inclusion Taskforce.

Professor Andy Lymer, Director of CHASM, was thrilled with the news: "Sir Brian has played a key role in helping to establish and grow CHASM since it was created helping to raise our profile across the sector, bringing key contacts onto the Advisory Board to engage with the Centre and supporting many pieces of our work in a wide variety of ways. It is fitting to be able to acknowledge the exceptional role he has played for our Research Centre, and also to pay tribute to the significant work he has led across the sector CHASM seeks to work within, with the award of an honorary doctorate."

Sir Brian recently stepped down from his role as Chairman of the CHASM Advisory Board after making an outstanding contribution over six years. Joanna Elson OBE, Chief Executive of the Money Advice Trust, has taken the helm this year.

Alongside his latest appointment as Chairman of Age UK, Sir Brian will continue to play an active role within CHASM as a key member of the Advisory Board. "I am delighted and immensely proud to receive my honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham today. I have very much enjoyed helping to develop CHASM into the highly respected and active Research Centre it is today, as Chair of the Advisory Board. I am extremely grateful to the University and to Andy and the CHASM Team for their support over the years."
