This week we’re hearing from third year student Martha Bird who is currently studying at Utrecht University. Here are some highlights from her Year Abroad so far:

Flower stall

This is a picture from the flower market that happens every Saturday at the top of my street. In Utrecht you’re always stumbling across new food markets or flower stalls.

Entrance to the concentration camp

We visited Berlin during our reading week, this is a picture from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp that we toured.

Denmark was the third country I’ve ventured to since arriving in Utrecht. We visited Copenhagen for a few nights and then got the train to Aarhus, which is smaller and feels like a more student oriented city.

Dockside architecture

I’d never been to Utrecht before I arrived on September 1st to move in, and wasn’t sure it would live up to Amsterdam (which I love) but actually Utrecht is like all of the best parts of Amsterdam at a slightly slower pace. It’s so beautiful and is filled with cafes, bars, restaurants and bikes.

LANS students Sammy, Eliza Ellie and Verity represented Birmingham in the Southern Universities Trampolining League this weekend. The competition was held at Bath University and involved more than 350 students from universities in the midlands and the south of England. Particular congratulations to Ellie who came fifth in her category and to Eliza for attending her first competition with the University!
