Professor Michael Ungar, from Dalhousie University in Canada, is a world-leading authority on resilience. In June 2018, he visited the University of Birmingham to participate in the first workshop linked to Professor Janine Natalya Clark's ERC-funded project 'A Comparative Study of Resilience in Survivors of Conflict-Related Rape and Sexual Violence: New Directions for Transitional Justice (CSRS).
Professor Ungar is part of the project's four-member International Advisory Board. He also delivered the first keynote address ('Why resilience matters') at the CSRS research team's interdisciplinary workshop on adversities, trauma and resilience. The second keynote address ('What's wrong with resilience?) was given by Professor David Chandler from the University of Westminster. The workshop - which brought together scholars, researchers and practitioners - was funded by the Institute for Advanced Studies.
