The University of Birmingham will open a new four-star standard hotel and conference centre on its Edgbaston campus in Summer 2018 to enhance the experience of those visiting and staying on campus.
The University of Birmingham Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre is being developed in a quiet corner of the university’s leafy campus, just two miles from the city centre.
The 185-bed hotel and conference facility will be built near to the University’s existing conference facilities off Edgbaston Park Road. This will include the regeneration of Garth House, a Grade II* listed building, and Hornton Grange as part of the work to preserve them for future generations. Garth House, an Arts and Crafts House, was built in 1900, and Hornton Grange in 1928.
Recently appointed Hotel General Manager Richard Metcalfe said: “You couldn’t dream of a better location. Birmingham is already a brilliant destination; vibrant culture, big sporting venues, great for families – and of course an incredible academic reputation.
“This multi-million pound investment means conference and visitor accommodation that really matches up to the prestige and personality of a world-class university.”
The new facility will enable academic conferences that University researchers often hold elsewhere in the city, to be held on campus in the heart of this research-led institution. In this way, it will provide an ideal location for leading thinkers to meet.
Conference facilities will be available in the new centre and both Hornton Grange and Garth House, depending on requirements and size. Flexible accommodation means groups of between 12 and 250 will be able to be accommodated.
The hotel and conference centre will be open to all visitors to the University and city.
