Hi guys, Josh and Nat here for a little semester review!

Second semester, as always, has been a busy one for BUCES. The term started with Winter Ball, where 200 members got suited and booted for the three-course meal followed by dancing into the night. Awards were presented to students from all years along with Mr and Mrs Chem Eng.

Next was a brand-new event, BUCES Bingo! We raised over £300 for Acorns Children’s Hospice and had a great turn out from all years, and even managed to sell out of bingo cards! I’m looking forward to this becoming an annual event.

Of course, any chemical engineer's second semester wouldn’t be complete without the Frank Morton sports day. Over 230 Birmingham students boarded the bus to Sheffield at 4 am ready to compete in their chosen sport of hockey, laser quest or rounders to name a few. After wins in hockey, fun run and pool Birmingham were named FM champions for the fifth year in a row! Well done to Piers Taylor for organising us all and bringing the trophy home safely.

This last year has been a year of growth for BUCES, with new events and socials, and huge updates to the way BUCES runs, adding new positions and changing old one’s as well as an entire overhaul to our academic arm.

But BUCES would be nothing without all of you, so thanks to everyone who has taken part in any event, social, fundraising or academic scheme for making this such a fantastic year. We’re both looking  forward to a repeat of all the great events again next year and seeing what ideas this very promising new committee have!

See you all in Liverpool for the end of year trip,

BUCES Love x

P.S. As some of you may know the nominations for the EPS Societies' Awards are now open. So if any of you look fondly on the Winter Ball, chatting to senior members of industry at the Industrial Dinner, joining us in Sheffield for our 5th consecutive Frank Morton win or any of the other spectacular events put on this year please consider submitting a nomination. It would mean the world to us!
