BUDSS Talent Show

To mark the end of 2018, our second year BDS students got together to organise the BUDSS Talent Show.

£250 was raised for St Mary's Hospice

"Ladies and Gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for …"-  The BUDSS Talent Show 2018.

Just a month to go and we were determined to put on a show that gave everyone a chance to unwind after a hectic few months. A frosty morning in November was the catalyst that led to a ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme and the planning began in earnest.

As a student in BDS2, I had exams mere days after the show. Like many of you, I have always been the kind of person to keep one finger in my work, and the other nine anywhere and everywhere - we’re dental students after all!

Both Dr Patel and Professor Chapple worked tirelessly with myself, Elen Rowlands (BDS5), Nabeela Caratela (BDS3), Seema Kumar (DHT3) and Harjot Bhogal (DHT3) to make sure that the show ran as smoothly as possible.

Our brilliant audience - students, clinicians, administrative staff and nurses from all departments came equipped with beaming smiles, loud cheers and generous donations for our chosen charity - we raised an astonishing £250 profit for St. Mary’s Hospice.

The acts ranged from amazing singers and effortless guitar players to a modified, Christmas inspired boat race, known as the ‘Sleigh Race’, and the ‘Mean Girl’s ‘Parody dance performed by our winners, Hashim Malik, Will Reay and Hriday Jain (BDS1). We were also all treated to an interactive and exhilarating ‘Bhangra Workshop’, led by Bhawandeep Singh and Amandeep Gill (BDS5).

Looking back on the event, the stress, sweat and sleep deprivation were so worth it to see the looks on everyone’s faces as they stood together at the end to sing ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! loudly and proudly swelling the halls of Dental Hospital.

And I would do it all again in a heartbeat....
