Over the past six weeks Femtinos have run two courses where children as young as 5 and 6 have covered 26 different elements, learning about the atomic structure, properties and the uses of the elements through hands-on activities and experiments. Femtinos aim is to inspire a love of learning, especially within science. They bring high level content to young children in a fun and accessible way.
Gavin talked to the children about his work around critical elements, bringing a different dimension to the event by being able to relate to real research and developments. Outreach work and helping to foster and nurture a love of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) subjects amongst young people is a core activity for lots of our research staff and we are delighted to see so many young children so enthusiastic and engaging with these subjects!
