PhD Economics student Fei Wu was chosen as the winner of the Michael O'Rourke Best Publication Award after being nominated by her supervisors David Dickinson and Nick Horsewood for the paper entitled 'Sectoral contributions to systematic risk in the Chinese stock market; for which she is the sole author.

The award recognises outstanding achievement in the publication of a postgraduate researcher's work and is awarded annually. As well as a certificate, winners receive a prize of £300.

Upon winning the award, Fei Wu said "I am overwhelmed with gratitude to have been selected to receive the Michael K. O'Rourke Best Publication Award of 2019 by the University of Birmingham. It means so much to me that the work that I am so passionate about also resonates with others. Winning this award would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from my supervisors, mentors, and colleagues. From them I have derived the strength to challenge myself and to go the extra mile at each stage. I also thank my family for their unflagging love and support, and for allowing me to indulge my passion for research. This award will always have a place of honour on my wall, to encourage me to continue my efforts for many years to come."
