On 17 September 2019, the Work Inclusivity Research Centre (WIRC) hosted this one-day workshop at the Global Institute for Innovation in partnership with the Birmingham-Illinois Partnership for Discovery, Engagement and Education (BRIDGE) and the The Institute for Global Innovation.

The workshop brought together researchers across disciplines to present and discuss new research on the education and employment of young people in Africa. Guest speaker for the workshop was Prof Richard Akresh from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The panel (Prof Richard Akresh, Dr Sami Bensassi, Dr Michael Henry and Prof Patricia Daley) and Q&A sessions led by Prof Fiona Carmichael, discussed how policy and practice can be directed to understanding and addressing the issues of education and employment of young people in developing countries.
