We have finally completed a run at the Shell Eco Marathon! We completed 11 laps of the circuit in 35.43 minutes and achieved a fuel efficiency of 265.53 mpg (UK). Our result makes us the 3rd best UK team within our category, and 37th overall.
Huge congratulations to our team who worked very hard over the course of the week to ensure the car ran. This is a massive achievement as we’ve never had a successful and valid run in our three years as an established, completely student-run society! We’ve been plagued by issues where our pneumatics burst and our clutch issues have led to subsequent engine failures, but we overcame these problems with grit and determination. We finally got the car running by the final day of the competition!
We are immensely proud of our team and hope to build on our successes! We would like to thank the University of Birmingham for their continued support and thank our sponsors for helping bring this to fruition. We would also like to thank Shell for the opportunity and hope to continue working with them in the years to come!

A big THANK YOU to the Alumni Impact Fund for providing us with the funding necessary to build and race Brum III. Through the generosity of donors, the Fund provided us with a platform to promote our society in the hope to win further funding and advertise ourselves in the #DoubleUoBMoney campaign with our YouTube video. This also enabled us to showcase our society to other members of the University and wider community. Without the funding and support we wouldn’t have the car we raced at the Shell Eco Marathon, and wouldn’t have been able to get the car on track which has been a huge milestone for us! With the support of the Alumni Impact Fund we were able to deliver the best performance of our 3 year tenure and hope to improve with continued support. Thank you again and we hope to receive further support and funding from the Alumni Impact Fund in the future.
We look forward to our 2019/2020 season in which we hope to radically re-design the power train and drivetrain of our car to maximise our fuel efficiency and aim for 1000mpg. Watch this space!
