Dr Kirsty Hill

From the 1st August 2020 Dr Kirsty Hill has taken on the role as Head of School and is the first female to hold this position. 

Kirsty joined the School of Dentistry in July 1999, working on the National Evaluation of Dental Services and gained her first lectureship in September 2002.  Kirsty, over the last 20 years, has focused on education, dental epidemiology, dental stress and managing dental anxious patients’. Over recent years Kirsty has managed Education across all undergraduate (Dentistry, Biomedical Materials Science, Hygiene & Therapy) and post graduate programmes within the School of Dentistry. In this role she has developed a number of educational enhancements that have improved the educational environment for our students. Alongside this she has been the Senior Tutor and has helped and supported numerous students in successfully completing their studies. Her teaching and leadership ethos centres on equality, fairness, transparency, consistency, excellent communication and responding in a measured way to making decisions. In her view student’s experience and the journey, they undertake during their time with us is paramount to the success of our School and University. 

Her vision for the Dental School is to develop an open and transparent culture where staff and students feel able to speak up and air their views. She wants an environment that produces contented staff and students, who feel fulfilled in their roles and have the support required to develop to their full potential. This ethos will help Kirsty make Birmingham School of Dentistry a centre for excellence for both Education and Research.
