We're delighted to announce that the documentary film Some Stories about the work of internationally renowned novelist and lecturer in the Department of Film and Creative Writing, Dr Ruth Gilligan, has been selected for the AHRC-funded online film festival Changing the Story International Film Festival 2020.
As the World locks down in the face of COVID-19, Changing the Story is holding its first international festival of the many films and animations that have been produced by its projects and the wider AHRC-GCRF research community. Films were submitted from 16 countries across the world and span a variety of formats and topics, from documentary shorts, animation to full-length features about mental health, addiction, migration and child soldiers to name a few.
SOME STORIES was directed and edited by Professor Rob Stone of the Department of Film and Creative Writing and filmed by Dr Jimmy Hay of the University of Bristol and Will McKeown, a PhD candidate in the University of Birmingham. It features original music by Will McKeown and original songs by Kathleen Turner. SOME STORIES is about Ruth's work with the Narrative 4 organisation and, specifically, the three days in November 2018 when 15 English teenagers from Birmingham met 15 Irish teenagers in Limerick for a ‘story exchange workshop’ designed to create empathy.
