Bridging the gap: breaking down barriers to build a diverse local talent pipeline
The Transformation West Midlands project is hosting a Forum to review their Reverse Mentoring scheme alongside the local organisations who took part on 29 July 2021.
TWM is a partnership between the University of Birmingham, Newman University and University College of Birmingham. The scheme saw 17 organisations from various sectors explore how they can improve diversity when attracting, recruiting and selecting candidates from the local region.
Local employers are invited to a Forum on 29 July, 14:00 - 15:30, to hear what participants gained from the scheme and the pledges from participating employers such as Deloitte, Birmingham City Council and FDM Group to implement changes resulting from their involvement in this programme.
We hope this event will also bring new employers, universities, students and graduates together to discuss future positive changes to entry-level recruitment and creating a workforce representing the local region.
The session will help attendees to:
- Develop a common understanding of barriers faced by recruiters and candidates from under-represented backgrounds in making/securing higher-level job offers in the local region.
- Listen to the mentees and hear the students' perspectives on how reverse mentoring was used to help positively affect their entry-level recruitment in EDI areas.
- Explore the value of reverse mentoring and how learning can evolve and create a legacy in different ways.
- Share ideas to help develop local graduate talent, prepared for the future, and hear from the student perspective on what they seek from companies.
