The University of Birmingham, in partnership with local GP practices and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust will be offering students and staff the Pfizer BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine.
Hosted in a marquee on the Green Heart of campus, the site has capacity to vaccinate over a 1000 people a day and is part of the regional and national effort to increase capacity for vaccinations against the coronavirus.
The University of Birmingham, in partnership with local GP practices and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust will be offering students and staff the Pfizer BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine on campus on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 June.

The site will target students (and staff) aged 18-24 using only the Pfizer BioNtech vaccine. By offering the service on campus at the end of the academic year, we are making it as easy as possible for students to get a first dose of the vaccine while they are still in Birmingham.
The majority of vaccines will be available via a bookable, appointment-based service, between 0800 to 1800 on both days to manage queues and waiting times. There will also be a walk-through offer in parallel with the bookings but there is likely to be wait and a queue in place.
Dr Emma Robinson, Academic Registrar at the University of Birmingham, said:
“It’s really important that students and staff get the vaccine when they are offered it. Vaccination is our best defence against infection. The more people that take up the vaccine, the better protected the University and our wider community is.
“Throughout the pandemic, we have supported and been supported by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This vaccination centre is a great next step in our work together to combat COVID-19.”
Morag Gates, COVID-19 Vaccine Project Director for Birmingham and Solihull, added: “We’re pleased to be working with the University of Birmingham as the offer of a COVID-19 vaccine extends to all over 18s.
“We have already worked with other organisations to provide vaccines across local hospitals, GP practices, mass vaccination centres and mobile vans, and are delighted to now be partnering with UoB.
“We know that vaccinations are our way out of this pandemic. I would echo Emma in urging all students and staff to get the vaccine when they are offered it.
“Already, the vaccine rollout has been a real triumph for the NHS across Birmingham and Solihull and we’re committed to continuing the programme and ensuring as many people as possible have both doses.”
