On Wednesday 5 October, the Birmingham Research Institute for History and Cultures (BRIHC) and Birmingham Eighteenth-Century Centre (BECC) hosted a panel discussion on ‘Midlands and Empire in the Long Eighteenth Century and Today’. The panel included Jo-Ann Curtis (Birmingham Museums Trust), Jane Gallagher (Ironbridge Gorge Museums), Duncan Frankis (Newman University) and Manu Sehgal (University of Birmingham) and considered the place of the eighteenth-century Midlands in wider global and imperial histories. It also discussed how we explore and interpret those connections in our local heritage today.
