Dr Louise Hardwick presented a keynote lecture at the Annual Conference of the Society for Francophone Postcolonial Studies on Friday 18 November.

Louise’s keynote lecture, ‘Joseph Zobel: Négritude and the Novel’ was a chance to present aspects of the international research that she has been developing over the course of her AHRC Early Career Leadership Fellowship.

In her talk, Louise set about challenging the current academic understanding of Zobel’s work, asking why he is so often considered a ‘one-hit wonder’, and showing that this is certainly not the case! She also explained how her forthcoming book (under contract to LUP) will redefine how scholars understand Zobel’s relationship to the Négritude movement.

The conference took place in Senate House and was hosted by the Institute of Modern Languages Research, University of London.
