Dr Helen McGettrick has been elected as the representative for England to sit on the British Society of Immunology Forum. Dr McGettrick is a Senior Research Fellow in the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing.

As a member of the British Society of Immunology Forum, Dr McGettrick will be helping to ensure that the BSI continues to serve the needs of the Immunology community as a whole – through strengthening education and careers support, and delivering activities that promote the awareness of immunology to the public and to policy-makers.

The BSI is one of the oldest, largest, and most active, Immunology societies in the world and is the largest in Europe. This committee serves as the BSI’s ‘think-tank’, through which issues and ideas important to the Society and its membership are discussed and developed.

Dr McGettrick and her team are currently researching how immune cells exit the blood and enter the tissue to help fight infection and repair damaged tissue, and importantly how this goes wrong in chronic inflammatory diseases.

"I'm looking forward to working with immunologists across England as their point of contact to transmit their innovative ideas to the forum. I'm anticipating great growth among the local immunology networks across the country," said Dr McGettrick.
