Professor Clive Roberts, Director of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham, is to take on an additional role leading the digital connectivity workstream of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) HS2 Growth Strategy.

Professor Roberts will serve as chairperson of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) HS2 Growth Strategy's Digital Connectivity workstream. He will be responsible for developing  a strategy on the use of cutting-edge digital systems to deliver improvements for the HS2 programme in a range of areas, including traffic management, cybersecurity and condition monitoring. 

The Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) is a global leader in railway science and education. In November 2017, the centre was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education for its contribution to making railways around the world safer and more efficient. BCREE also plays a leading role in the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN), which secured £92 million in funding to establish the UK as a world-leading centre of railway excellence.
