The Big Questions

Dr Rhiannon Grant is an Honorary Lecturer in Modern Quaker Thought at the University of Birmingham and a Tutor at Woodbrooke, a Quaker study centre in Birmingham. She specialises in contemporary Quakerism and religious thought.

In front of a live studio audience, the panel discussed whether you can be a Christian without believing in God. The topic stems from recent news that Quakers are reportedly thinking of ‘dropping God’ from its meetings guidance. Rhiannon talked about the form of Quaker meetings and how experiences of God are expressed.

The discussion starts at 36:15 on the BBC iPlayer website, with Rhiannon first appearing at 41:10. You can read more on Rhiannon’s thoughts on Quakerism, meetings and God in her recent blog post, ‘Things I might say on TV’.

BBC One’s The Big Questions, hosted by Nicky Campbell, is a series of moral, ethical and religious debates. The programme was aired on Sunday 13 May 2018 at 10:00.
