Starting on 2 July, the Department of English Language and Linguistics is running a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Introduction to Linguistics, hosted by FutureLearn.
The free three-week course will provide an introduction to the main approaches used in linguistic research, including linguistic experiments and discourse analysis. It will cover the key methods used in linguistic descriptions, and some of the everyday ‘myths’ about language. It will also examine how linguistic researchers turn our ideas about language into linguistic knowledge.
The course is being led by Dr Joe Bennett, Director of Undergraduate Programmes in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Birmingham.
