On 8 - 10 April, Birmingham Business School successfully hosted the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA) conference that took place across the Aston Webb Building, the Arts Building and the Elgar Concert Hall.

The conference took full advantage of the Green Heart and Edgbaston Park Hotel in attracting 372 delegates from across the world and featured 264 paper presentations, 3 magicians and a cartoonist. Plenary sessions on the contentious topics of pension measurement (by Ian Tonks), and the future of corporate governance in the light of recent scandals (by Prem Sikka, Laura Spira, Nigel Garrow and Keith Hoskin) were complemented by lively fringe sessions on areas such as the Sustainable Development Goals.

Delegates enjoyed a conference dinner in the Great Hall and were able to raise a toast to the achievements of Sir Bryan Carsberg and others as BAFA award-winners. A talented and hardworking team of BBS professional services staff, student helpers and the conference and events staff helped keep ‘the show on the road’.
