John Hall and I (Anastasia Pywell) became the new Co-Captains for the Engineering Eagles Team 2018-19. We wanted our community to be a collaborative, friendly, social environment; welcoming all.

During the first term we implemented a new approach within our society; do more, invite all. Through adapting our promotional style and branding we increased our intake from a steady 15 last year to a 50 member intake which became steady 30-35 members. We are very excited to announce that as well as increasing our numbers by two-fold, we have also managed to get another team into the Campus League so to include all. So we will have two Eagles teams fighting to win the League Trophy 2019.

Throughout the first term, we tried to boost our team bond through various socials after training at Circo and organising a Christmas social for the team which was great fun! We increased fitness by establishing a Tuesday night Circuit session where an average number of 10 members attended - you’ve got to start small to get big anyway.

With our A’s and B’s obtaining the sixth and second place, respectively in the first term League, we managed to achieve a good initial status and all in all, it was a great first term.

Since the Christmas break, the Engineering Eagles have continued their terrific League performances from before Christmas with the A's and B’s achieving sixth and third places respectively, including a good showing at finals day. Great commitment fostered a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for training sessions and matches. With our brand new kit, the teams looked fresh, slick and ready for every Sunday game.

Eagles had won the PwC Opportunity Challenge opening round early in December securing £1,000 and achieving an automatic place in the Final Round. This helped us to subsidise kit costs for our members by £30 each. In early February Anastasia Pywell, Luke Benham and Nico Pickard went to London to take part in the challenge. The team had great fun but unfortunately missed out on the prize. We do, however, hope to continue to compete in PwC Opportunity Challenges in the future.

Throughout the spring term, we had lots of socials including Bongo Bingo and our Annual End of Year Meal with awards and announcing the new Captains for 2019/2020 Luke Benham and Milo McNally with Sam Lowe and Grace Robinson joining the team as Secretary and Social Secretary respectively.
