Semester two is drawing to a close, and the Easter holiday brings the challenge of balancing revision and manufacture for the UBRacing team.
Huge advancements in the manufacture of our carbon fibre monocoque have been made with an aim to have it completed by the end of April. Our aerodynamics team are hard at work with the manufacture of the fourth iteration of our front and rear wings, with preparations being made for the very unique method of manufacture for our brand-new diffuser. This semester has also seen exciting developments in the powertrain department as the prototype for our redesigned exhaust, and second loom for our parallel dyno set-up have been completed.
It hasn’t been all work in the team however, with members of the team travelling to Dunstall Hill Primary School in Wolverhampton with UBR21, the racing car we built last year, to speak to all year groups about careers in STEM and working in a Formula Student Team. We have also hosted multiple schools from around Birmingham in our lab to promote the University.
This semester we have held our last testing session with UBR21 with the car now retired. Since Christmas the team have been able to collect valuable data and train the drivers that will be competing at Silverstone in July.
