University of Birmingham Voices were pleased to perform this month with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and conductor, John Wilson, at Symphony Hall, Birmingham in a performance of William Walton’s monumental work, Belshazzar’s Feast.
The performance featured a number of international soloists alongside Wilson – including Bozidar Emiljanic, James Ehnes, who played the Barber Violin Concerto, as well as the orchestras own choir, CBSO Chorus, to complete the 300 strong massed group.
Prepared by Chorus Master, Julian Wilkins, University of Birmingham Voices performed in the concert at the personal re-invitation of John Wilson, following their critically acclaimed performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard in spring 2017, as well as a gala concert of the music of Leonard Bernstein in January 2018. Rehearsed following the completion of the spring term, the performance engaged students across a range of colleges and schools from the University campus.
