BUMS

BUMS have continued their success throughout the second term! Most notable has been our continued good form across all of our BUMSport campus league teams. Our basketball team stormed their way to the top of the table to give us the Division 2 title! This was rewarded with new branded bibs and we’re now into the semi-finals of the campus league cup. Our football A team had some great results which landed us sixth in the table. The football social team went from strength to strength, finishing with a massive 5-1 win, which pushed the team to seventh in the table. Netball continued their strong form into term two to finish fourth in the Division 2 table. On top of all of these fantastic results in the weekly campus league, our social badminton continued to have great turnout.

The BUMSport Awards Night celebrated our highly successful year of sport, both in terms of results and participation. We rewarded nine of our players, three in each sport, with awards like ‘Player of the Season’ and ‘Most Improved’.

To cap off a fantastic year of sport, the society competed against the whole of the College in the EPS Trophy 2019. We entered into all three sports offered at the event; football, netball and touch rugby, with 28 students registered. We were highly successful in all sports, finishing second overall, which was certainly helped by the fantastic support of the society watching on from the side lines to keep team moral high.

With sport all summarised, how could we forget the Materials Ball 2019, with over 200 staff, alumni and students treated to magical black-tie evening in the iconic Great Hall! Thank you to the organising committee who made it such a great event for everyone to take part in.

To continue on from our highly successful charity work last term, the society held a Christmas Charity Bake Sale at the end of the first term, raising £150.64 for Crisis. On top of this, our second BUMS Charity Quiz was in aid of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, raising £120.50. This gives our society a £1,631.14 grand total raised across the year for some amazing charities which we are extremely proud of!

We have continued to put on popular and inclusive socials this term. BUMS vs NucSoc 2.0 had a ‘M and N’ theme which encouraged a great variety of fancy dress, ranging from ‘Mario Kart’ to ‘Mr Men’. The BUMS Open Mic Night at Indie Lounge had a mix of stunning solos to hilarious karaoke. These events were coupled with the very popular meme of the month competition and cooking with committee series.
