The Shakespeare Institute’s Thursday seminar, when the whole research community gathers weekly during term time to hear a guest presentation from a major scholar in the field, was graced on 14 November by an interview with Birmingham’s own Professor Emeritus of Drama, Russell Jackson.
Professor Jackson has recently made a second major donation to the Shakespeare Institute library, a further share of the rich archive of theatrical and cinematic history which he has himself compiled over more than 35 years as textual consultant and advisor to directors and actors including Sir Kenneth Branagh, Michael Grandage, and Jude Law. In conversation with Michael Dobson, the Institute’s current Director, Professor Jackson told the stories behind some of the draft shooting scripts, photographs of set designs, hand-annotated rehearsal texts of Shakespeare and other treasures which record the creative processes of some of our leading stage and screen interpreters of Shakespeare.
