Michell Chresfield

Michell Chresfield, Lecturer in US History on the ACS programme joined Sarah Churchwell, Professor of Literature and Public Understanding at University College London to discuss the 2020 election and what comes next, as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival.

Both speakers argued for the need to consider the 2020 election as one of the most important in modern times. From racial justice to immigration and climate change, the future of the United States will be fundamentally shaped by the winner of the election.

The speakers also discussed how important the US election would be in the UK, as the two countries are important allies and potential new trading partners. Though both believed that the race would be close, there was a strong sense that the election would be decided without the intervention of the Courts. Though it is this last prediction that remains to be seen.
