As the year draws to a close, colleagues from across the School gathered with joy and gratitude for our annual Christmas lunch and Staff Awards Ceremony.
It was a day filled with warmth, camaraderie, and recognition of the incredible achievements that make our community so exceptional.
We commenced the day with the much-anticipated Staff Awards, recognising outstanding contributions across the board. Following this, we indulged in a delectable three-course Christmas lunch. Post-lunch, the spirit of friendly competition took over with a festive quiz masterfully led by Vasco Alves and Claire Stanley. The day concluded with prizes, music, drinks, and the option to extend the festivities.
This year has been marked by remarkable milestones and achievements:

Student Impact Awards: The inaugural Student Impact Awards celebrated our students' outstanding contributions, emphasising values such as ambition, innovation, responsible business, ED&I, and collaboration. Keynote speaker Jeannyfar Gelpcke set the stage for a night of recognition and inspiration.
Menopause Workplace Pledge: Birmingham Business School proudly became the first Business School to sign the Menopause Workplace Pledge. We addressed menopause-related challenges with a thoughtful event in collaboration with CIPD, fostering open dialogue and inclusivity.
Equalities Conference: Our partnership with the Labour Party for the Equalities Conference showcased our dedication to understanding and shaping equality issues in the workplace and society. Dr. Scott Taylor, Megan Chance, and Dr. Sophie King-Hill led discussions, contributing valuable insights.
COP28 Engagement: Birmingham Business School played a pivotal role in addressing climate change at COP28, contributing expertise in carbon accounting, environmental economics, sustainable finance, and responsible leadership. Our active engagement reflects our commitment to responsible business practices for a sustainable future.
Undergraduate Management Student of the Year Award: Celebrating individual excellence, one of our students secured the prestigious Undergraduate Management Student of the Year Award, highlighting the calibre of talent within our community.
Staff Awards: Our staff awards were a testament to the exceptional contributions made by our colleagues. With an overwhelming 138 nominations received across the school and our Dubai campus, the competition was fierce, underscoring our culture of celebrating achievements.
Closing the festivities, Professor Edgar Meyer, Dean of the Business School said “As we wrap up a year filled with accomplishments and unity, I want to express my deepest gratitude to every one of you. Your dedication, hard work, and energy have been instrumental in our collective success. Enjoy the festive atmosphere, delicious meals, and the upcoming festivities. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate colleagues, making these awards possible.”
