We are very proud to announce that Kate Armstrong, one of our distance MA students, has won a commendation for her dissertation from the British Council.
Kate is an English Lecturer working at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Salalah, Oman. Kate’s dissertation looked at the different types of gestures used by English language teachers and the role that they play. The judges felt that the research “has the potential to widely impact teaching practises as it allows teachers to look at the gestures they use and the effect they have on their learners”.
Kate developed an interest in body language and gestures when she was an undergraduate studying psychology. “When I did the psycholinguistics module on the distance programme, I thought wow! there's so much that has yet to be discovered and understood!”
The team here at Birmingham would like to congratulate Kate on her success.
