The McBain Medal is an annual award made by the Society of Chemical Industry to honour an early career researcher or technologist who has made a praiseworthy contribution to colloid and interface science within 15 years after completion of postgraduate study.

I am humbled to receive the McBain Medal that recognises the quality and significance of research carried out by my research group in investigating and modulating the tribological and conformational properties of soft matter at surfaces and interfaces. Without contributions from my former and current colleagues, collaborators, mentors, and group members, it is not possible accomplish what has been done so far.

Professor Zhenyu Jason Zhang, professor of soft matter engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering

Professor Zhang is a professor of soft matter engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering. He has a broad interest in understanding and modulating soft matter at surfaces and interfaces. He leads several national and international research consortia to understand antimicrobial effects so as to develop sustainable and effective surface hygiene technologies.
