Dr Oliver Norris has joined the staff of Birmingham's Department of Theology and Religion as a postdoctoral research fellow.
Oliver is based in the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing, as part of the GALaCSy project. This three-year project, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft is examining the earliest translations of the Epistle to the Galatians. Oliver will be primarily responsible for preparing the Vetus Latina edition of the earliest Latin evidence for Galatians.
Oliver's previous position was as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oxford on the Critical Editions of the Hebrew Bible project. This involved transcribing Latin and Greek manuscripts of the Psalms into the OCHRE database as part of the CEDAR project managed by the University of Chicago. Oliver has also published on the Milanese Psalter and has various other publications forthcoming, including a chapter in the Oxford Handbook of the Latin Bible.
Oliver is no stranger to the Institute, having participated regularly in the Birmingham Colloquium since 2011, and being a Visiting Fellow of ITSEE from 2016 to 2020. More recently, he has been working on an edition of the bilingual Verona Psalter. We are delighted to welcome Oliver in his new role and look forward to his contribution to the project.
