Why Delusions Matter has been published by Bloomsbury, in the "Why Philosophy Matters" series.
In the book, Lisa argues that paying attention to the phenomenon of clinical delusions and other implausible, unshakeable beliefs, such as beliefs in conspiracy theories, helps us understand other people's perspectives and reduce the risks of polarisation. The key is to see even unusual beliefs not as a sign of pathology but as a manifestation of agency.
Awais Aftab has asked Lisa to talk about the special role of delusions in Philosophy in his Mixed Bag series, called Psychiatry at the Margins.
