This initiative, aligned with the BBS decolonisation team, aims to develop spaces that reflect our students’ diverse identities and foster a strong sense of community.
Launched in response to 2023 student feedback, the project seeks to create inclusive, engaging spaces. Central to this effort is collaborating with students to understand their needs and enhance their representation within University House. Activities have included poetry workshops and surveys to gather student experiences and desires, ensuring proposed changes are relevant and impactful.
Initial findings highlighted a desire for a vibrant, welcoming environment, with suggestions like colourful décor and greenery. There is also a call for more social hubs to facilitate connections and community building.
The project is co-led by recent BSc Economics graduates Eva Doherty and Eesha Khurram, who participated in the BBS Student Research Internships. Driven by a passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), they aim to give back to the school. Through this experience, they have learned about the importance of student representation, inclusivity practices, and decolonisation efforts, making a meaningful impact on our school community.
As we continue these improvements, we remain committed to prioritising student perspectives. Our goal is to create spaces that truly reflect and support our diverse community at Birmingham Business School, making it a place where every student feels they belong.
