Staff and students on the red carpet at Birmingham Film Festival
This year the University of Birmingham was an official sponsor for the Birmingham Film Festival. The Festival is a wonderful opportunity to support production and creativity in the city. Colleagues from the Department of Film and Creative Writing and CAL Partnerships team were invited to present some of the Awards at the Festival Gala Dinner, where they also networked with other filmmakers and industry professionals.
Dr Richard Langley, Head of Department, presented the prize for Best Student Film, while Nina Jones (Film Manager) and Dr Chris Nunn (Assistant Professor) awarded Best Editing and Best Short Film respectively. It was wonderful to see Chris’s work on the documentary Children of the Wicker Man highlighted in the festival programme.
Staff were also joined by Yuky Chumacero Hidalgo, Oishi Datta and Pranoy Dsouza, who will be graduating from the MA Film and Television: Research and Production this December. Yuky, Oishi and Pranoy submitted their short film ‘The Letters’ to BFF and were shortlisted for ‘Best Student Film’ - a fantastic achievement. While they didn’t win, we are very proud that the film, produced as part of their MA, was screened at the festival and received this recognition.
It was a lovely evening that showcased the vibrant talent and filmmaking community in Birmingham and beyond – as well as a chance for photos on the red carpet!
