Birmingham Chemist honoured at Women in Tech Awards 2025

Dr Ruchi Gupta is the winner of this year's Academic Award for her ground-breaking research in healthcare technologies.

Dr Ruchi Gupta, Associate Professor in Analytical Science at the University of Birmingham, is pioneering research on novel optical biosensors that are transforming approaches to disease detection, particularly in cancer diagnosis. With over £2.5 million in research funding and 49 publications to date, her ground-breaking hydrogel sensing technology has garnered worldwide recognition and a patent.

The award also recognises Dr Gupta's efforts to champion women in STEM, mentoring diverse talent and leading initiatives to inspire the next generation and to shape scientific innovation and academic excellence.

The annual Women in Tech Awards highlight and recognise the ongoing contribution of women in the tech sector in the UK. The awards aim to raise the visibility of women in this space and enable the next generation to "see it and therefore aspire to it".
