Congratulations to Melvin Harris, who recently submitted his doctoral thesis on "Believing, Belonging and Behaving: The Quakers of Fritchley and Their Culture of Salvation 1895 -1934."
Melvin's examiners (pictured above) were Professor Douglas Davies from the University of Durham, and Professor Hugh McLeod from Birmingham. Following the viva voce examination, they recommended the thesis for the award of the PhD.
The celebrations after the viva were twofold, because Melvin's lead supervisor, Professor Ben Pink Dandelion, Director of Birmingham's Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies, revealed that Melvin was his fiftieth student to pass his doctoral viva. Congratulations to Ben on this remarkable milestone, and to Melvin on his successful examination!
