Following his appearance on the BBC's Shakespeare: Rise of a Genius, Professor Ewan Fernie of the Shakespeare Institute will feature in a special Christmas television programme with Dame Judi Dench.

Judi Dench: Shakespeare, My Family and Me airs at 21:00 on Channel 4 on the 27 of December.

Professor Fernie comments, "It was a real privilege to talk about Shakespeare to one of the greatest Shakespeare actors of all time, and in Hampton Court Palace no less. I was a bit worried about revealing to Dame Judi just how close her ancestral connection to Shakespeare might have been, but of course she was magnificently more than equal to the occasion, and I think it will make good TV!"

The Director and CEO of Proper Job Films, Harvey Lilley, comments, "In Channel 4’s Judi Dench; Shakespeare, My Family and me, Ewan (Professor Ewan Fernie) provided both rigorous and expert context and was a sensitive guide for Dame Judi Dench. In interview, he unpacked how the year 1606 was one of the most important in Shakespeare’s life and how much of what Judi was uncovering may have impacted on Shakespeare’s imagination. He then helped steer Dame Judi through the finale of the film where the question of whether Judi’s ancestor may have encountered Shakespeare and one of his works was finally answered."
