Royal Geographical Society (IBG) Annual International Conference 2025 to be hosted by the University of Birmingham
The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Annual International Conference 2025 will be held at the University of Birmingham from 26 to 29 August 2025, coinciding with the University’s landmark 125th anniversary year.
Bringing together more than 2,000 leading geographers, researchers, practitioners, and students from around the world, the conference is the largest gathering of its kind in Europe. The theme for the 2025 conference is ‘Geographies of Creativity/Creative Geography’, and it will be chaired by Professor Patricia Noxolo from the University of Birmingham.
Hosting the conference in Birmingham is a fantastic opportunity to highlight both the global importance of geographical research and the vibrant, creative work happening here in the Midlands. It also allows us to celebrate the RGS’s enduring contributions to the discipline, while fostering new conversations—especially around creative geographies—in a city shaped by diversity, innovation, and resilience.
Hosting the Royal Geographical Society (IBG) Annual International Conference during our 125th anniversary is a fitting celebration of our heritage and future. Geography has always been a cornerstone of our academic excellence, and we look forward to welcoming scholars from across the world to engage with the pressing issues of our time.
We are really pleased to bring the Annual International Conference to the University of Birmingham in 2025. As we face global challenges from climate change to social inequality, this year’s conference will provide an essential space for geographical scholarship and debate.
The conference will feature a diverse programme of sessions, workshops, and keynote lectures under the leadership of the incoming Chair of the Conference. See the full programme at www.rgs.org
