The second MUFG Prize for Best MSc Dissertation on Climate Change has been awarded to an MSc Accounting and Finance student in conjunction with the December graduation ceremony.

Jingyi Tang, this year’s winner, examined the link between corporate ESG performance and stock price volatility of Chinese A-share listed companies during the 2009-2022 period. Her findings indicate significant inverse relation between ESG performance and stock price volatility, especially in state-owned enterprises, large corporations, and high-tech companies.

I’m incredibly excited and honoured to receive this award. Learning that my dissertation was recognized has been an unforgettable moment that has boosted my confidence. I’m deeply grateful to my supervisor, Professor Vagenas-Nanos, whose guidance and feedback were invaluable throughout the research process, and to all the teachers whose lessons on ESG and the global business landscape inspired me with new perspectives. Their encouragement to share my thoughts, even when they were still developing, was truly empowering. I also want to thank the selection committee for recognising my work. To my fellow students, I’d say: stay curious, embrace challenges, and don’t hesitate to seek guidance – it truly makes a difference
