Autumn Is Queer
Autumn Is Queer is the brainchild of Paul O’Donnell, the Creative Director of Extraordinary Us, a multi-disciplinary production company and member of the University’s Culture Forward network. Running from 22 September to 30 November, Autumn Is Queer is a campaign that brings together a host of organisations, businesses, and communities into a joyful programme of events and activities to celebrate individuality, resilience, and pride, during a season noted for dramatic colours and transformations.
The campaign includes venues from across Coventry and the wider West Midlands, and events from performances, music, and stand-up to walks, workshops and craft fairs. Paul said: “Although deeply rooted in queer culture, Autumn Is Queer is for everyone who values authenticity, community, and the right to live unapologetically. With creativity, humour, and heart, Autumn Is Queer invites everyone to blossom together.”
The University, through Culture Forward, is proudly supporting Autumn Is Queer by drawing together a complimentary satellite programme of events in Birmingham and helping to widen the scope and impact of the campaign across the West Midlands. Birmingham-based organisations, including the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Sampad Arts, and Birmingham LGBT are taking part, giving the campaign a truly regional identity.

Culture Forward is a vital driver of University’s civic mission through drawing together a network of the University’s experts, students, and researchers; and arts, cultural, creative, heritage and community organisations that are based - or working - in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
