Over past couple of years the instances of one State using force against another have multiplied. At times the State using force advances legal justification, and in other cases it says nothing about it. In either case, the international lawyers’ community is widely involved in assessing these instances from the legal point of view. Professor Alexander Orakhelashvili writes about this phenomenon in his latest guest editorial for the Journal on the Use of Force and International Law (of which he is also an editorial board member). The editorial tries to encompass this phenomenon from the historical as well as from the inter-disciplinary viewpoints, across international law and international relations.
