We've asked our film department what movies they think you should be watching this Valentine's Day.

Crazy Stupid Love (2011)

Dr Christina Wilkins, Lecturer in Film and Creative Writing, said: "A film I'd recommend this Valentine's Day is 'Crazy Stupid Love'. It's a film that explores different types of love, from first love to rekindling love and transformative love, and it is really funny"

So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)

Dr Chris Nunn, Assistant Professor of Film, said: "So the film I recommend you watch this Valentine's Day is 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' from 1993. It's a romantic comedy starring Mike Myers, one of the first films where he plays multiple characters, including his own Scottish dad. It features a range of incredible, zany comedic cameos."

The Pirate (1948)

Dr Catherine Lester, Associate Professor in Film and Television, said: "I want to recommend the 1948 swashbuckling musical romance 'The Pirate', starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. It's really funny, it's sexy, it contains spectacular musical sequences and most importantly, Gene Kelly's legs in really tiny shorts!"

Challengers (2024)

Film Manager Nina Jones settled on a more contemporary pick: "I would suggest 'Challengers'. It's a fantastic film, with incredible actors, a really complex three-way love triangle, and an incredible soundtrack. If you love tennis and tight shorts, then I'd highly recommend it."

The Wedding Singer (1998)

Professor James Walters, Professor of Screen Aesthetics and Criticism, said: "The film that I'd recommend for Valentine's Day is 'The Wedding Singer'. It's a film from 1998 starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It's funny, charming, silly, sincere, and it's only about 90 minutes!"
