Birmingham is an extremely vibrant, welcoming city. A multicultural hub with over 180 nationalities, “home” is never far for international students.
The city offers some incredible cuisines from across the world and is a global spot for foodies. The famous Balti Triangle boasts some of the best curry-houses in the nation, while Chinatown offers diverse dining options and easy access to Asian ingredients.
Birmingham is also the youngest city in Europe – approximately 40% of the population is under 25. Luckily, the city understands the assignment and has been designed with young people in mind.
There are lots of great spots to hang out, like sports clubs and board game cafés, and countless ways to connect with Birmingham’s creative vibe.

In a big city of 1.2 million people, it’s easy to worry about feeling like just another number, but the city’s deep-rooted community spirit ensures you’ll find a second family in no time.
The numbers speak for themselves: Birmingham holds one of the highest graduate retention rates in the UK – 41%. That means when students come to study here, many decide to make Birmingham their home for good.
Honestly, it does not surprise me at all that so many students stay! It is the people and the culture that makes the idea of staying here long-term feel realistic.
