Arts and Humanities Research Council awards University £4m

Birmingham is to receive £4 million from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support postgraduate study across a wide range of arts and humanities-related disciplines.

Birmingham is to receive £4 million from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support postgraduate study across a wide range of arts and humanities-related disciplines. 

The sum will fund a total of 116 BGP studentships over a five-year period (from the academic year 2009/10 to the academic year 2013/14) under its Block Grant Partnership (BGP) scheme. This includes 69 doctoral awards, and 47 masters awards (29 Research Preparation Masters and 18 Professional Preparation Masters).

The 116 studentships are split over 16 discipline areas, as follows:

  • Cultural Studies (1)
  • Dance, Drama and Performing Arts (3)
  • English Language and Literature (18)
  • European Language and Culture (2)
  • Film and Digital Media Production (5)
  • French Language and Culture (1)
  • German Language and Culture (3)
  • History (25)
  • History of Art, Architecture & Design (13)
  • Iberian and Latin American Language and Culture (1)
  • Italian Language and Culture (4)
  • Music (7)
  • Philosophy (7)
  • Religious Studies (9)

Of the 116 studentships, 23 are available for the academic year 2009/10 academic year.
