Award winning Kachi Ozumba will discuss his debut novel, The Shadow of a Smile, (published by Alma Books) on Tuesday 8 December, at the University’s Centre of West African Studies.

Funny, crude, poignant, the novel reveals the darker side of Nigeria - a country striving to consolidate democracy after years of dictatorship and tribal in-fighting.

A German translation of The Shadow of a Smile is due to be published in Germany in spring 2010.

Kachi recently won the African regional prize in the 2009 Commonwealth Short Story competition for his story, The One-Armed Thief. He is also a winner of the 2006 Decibel Penguin Short Story Prize.

The reading will start at 5.10pm, in the Danford Room, Second Floor of the Arts Building.

Ends.
